Have you wondered what it would be like to have an entire airplane to yourself? What if you could not only have that but also spend the night in it overlooking some of the most amazing views of a rainforest? That’s exactly what we got at the Hotel Costa Verde’s Cockpit cottage in Quepos, Costa Rica!
Ever since we heard about Costa Verde we’ve been looking for a chance to check one of their two accommodations made from a fuselage. We chose the Cockpit cottage made out of a MD-80 fuselage over the 737 since we’ve flown the MD-80 several times over the course of the past two decades and it’s one of our favorite aircrafts (Sadly they have all been retired). We were amazed at how much space we had in the room to sprawl out. The bed was at least a standard queen size and quite comfortable. Wifi and TV with English channels made us feel closer to home but that’s not what we came for. The bathroom however totally brought us back to the fact that we were in the middle of the rainforest! Built as an attachment to the fuselage it kind of protruded out into the forest. The ceiling was about 8-10 ft with a completely open window - yes only grill no glass - that wrapped all around the bathroom. It’s a one of a kind feeling to see and hear monkeys while you are showering! Definitely the biggest highlight of the room. Oh - even the cockpit converted to a kitchen was not a match :)
